FAQ

A digital mining sometimes refers to a digital twin. In mining industry and mineral processing plants, this is a virtual model designed to accurately reflect a physical object or combination of different objects such as the entire process. The object being studied — for example, a crusher, SAG mill, ball mill, cyclones, pumps and etc.  — is outfitted with various sensors related to vital areas of functionality. These sensors produce data about different aspects of the physical object’s performance, such as throughput, power consumptions, temperature, pressure, levels, operating conditions and many more. This data is then transmitted to a control or PI system and applied to the digital model.

Virtual model can then be used to run simulations, study performance issues and generate possible improvements, all with the goal of generating valuable insights — which can then be applied back to the original physical object.

The main benefit is that with lowest possible cost the operators could have a much better visibility of their operation, increasing the productivity, increasing the safety and increasing the predictability of their operation while minimizing the social and environmental impacts.

Following are the typical steps need to be taken for implementation of digital mining solutions types of projects:

  • Data Gathering
  • Operator Interview
  • Data Preparation
  • Analytical Modeling
  • Model Validation

The final model could be integrated on a cloud base, on-prem or combination of both deponing on the IT infrastructure of each operation has. The could have access to the results through user interface (UI).

Usually with the right support of operators this could be done in 6 to 12 months depending on different operation.

No. the more data the better. We have some of the latest computing systems and there is no limitation on the data that we could process for the mining and mineral processing projects.

Mining industry could have a significant impact on the environment. At the same time there is a need for different types of minerals for the essential use and well being of humanity. In order to have the lowest possible impacts on the environment, mining industry should adopt a sustainable design for their existing operation or any new design. This could be achieved through using the new techniques and equipment, re-using mining tails or wastes in other industries, and adopting new technologies like digital mining to monitor and provide transparent outcome for the society.
